SILOX, a group with international standing

The Silox Group, which is specialised in inorganic chemistry, manufactures and markets mostly sulphur and non-ferrous metal derivatives, especially those of zinc. Its registered headquarters are located at Engis, near Liège, in Belgium.

The capital of SILOX (Société Industrielle Liégeoise des Oxydes) is held in equal parts by the Belgian groups PRAYON and Cybelle.

PRAYON, which is likewise jointly owned 50/50 by the Wallonia Regional Investment Company (SRIW) and phosphates office Office Chérifien des Phosphates (OCP), is Europe’s leading manufacturer of purified phosphoric acid and a leading player in the area of phosphate salts. Cybelle is a holding company under Belgian law that is active in the production of thermoformable polystyrene sheets for food packaging.

The Silox Group has diversified its activities greatly over the past few years through various acquisitions and stakes in other companies.

Today, SILOX is: 

  • the only manufacturer of sodium hydrosulphite-based reducing and bleaching agents with production units on three continents and expertise in two main production processes, namely, the zinc dust and sodium formate processes

  • the world specialist in high-performance active zinc oxides for use in rubber

  • a leader in anticorrosive pigments and sulphoxylates

  • internationally renowned in the area of recycling and recovering non-ferrous metal residues by hydrometallurgy.
